I finished the knitting on my first pair of socks for Summer of Socks 2007. I still have an end to sew in and they need washing/blocking, but that will wait until tomorrow evening.
I noticed a trend in my sock knitting that I find interesting -- my own variation of the Second Sock Syndrome.
So far I have knit 4 pairs of socks. One pair was knitted two-at-once on magic needle, so no SSS effect noted.
On the other three pair, I started the second sock right away, though for my first pair, done top-down, I took a 2 1/2 year break just after turning the heel.
The other three pair all have a second sock knitted much better than the first -- fewer mistakes, better gauge, etc.
I assume that effect will disappear as I knit more socks and the first sock no longer serves as 'practice' for the techniques I use in that pair.
I've only been knitting socks for the past 1.5 years, but the second sock always turns out to be a refinement of the first.

Good to know I'm not the only one, Karen.
I expect eventually I'll end up with a favorite basic sock formula for plain socks, but that an actual pattern will be an adventure each time.
